The educational e-portfolio: preliminary evidence of its relationship with student’s self-efficacy and engagement

Abstract The educational use of portfolios has been increasing in the last few years, especially as technology also developed electronic versions portfolios. Although there is abundant information about their benefits and practice description, studies provide empirical evidence implementation. objective this study was to initial portfolio higher education. Concretely, we aimed 1) explore correlation between students’ performance on more traditional assessment methods 2) whether student’s personal variables predict key elements e-portfolio, such individual reflections, if these contribute general academic course, 3) evaluate e-portfolio during a semester changes self-efficacy engagement. For purpose, an sample 73 students were recruited, (based Mahara) implemented over semester. results showed that correlated with score obtained multiple choice tests. There increase after one implementation, engagement proved be important predictor final course grade through mediation reflections. These offer preliminary promising relationship specific element e-portfolios, reflections several related achievement
